A simple test: An American woman meets a European while on a visit -- either in the US or in Europe, makes no difference. They fall in love and marry and settle down in Europe. She has his children. Are these children Europeans (Germans, Spaniards, etc.) or Americans? The answer should be obvious. And since it seems that Senator Cruz has never applied for US citizenship, this tells us that he is most likely not even a US citizen. For anyone that cannot go to a US city or town hall and get a copy of their birth certificate, the only source of a document to prove citizenship is the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS, formerly known as the INS). For the foreign born, the INS would determine if the person had citizen parents (both) and that the place of birth was considered US soil to be considered a citizen and 'natural born.' Mr. Cruz does not meet that criteria. Should he then say, What am I then? The INS would properly say, You Sir, are an illegal immigrant with a mother who was born in the US. You are a foreigner who has not yet applied for US citizenship. This is why Mr. Obama'a Hawaiian 'birth certificate' was so important that he had one created for him in 2007, and fortunately for him the person most intimately involved, Ms. Fuddy, died in a plane water landing that she survived but died anyway, because he only had a serialized Kenyan birth certificate (with his footprint) and a mother born in the US. This is why Senator McCain had to show he was born on US soil in Panama, which he really wasn't because it was just leased property. This would make Senator McCain native born, not natural born. President Obama is another issue altogether, but under no circumstances 'natural born' and totally ineligible to become president, But this is how our government works today.
